The Silver Museum nominated for the Grand Tourism Prize 2025

Today, this year’s nominations for the Grand Tourism Prize are announced. Norrbotten’s representative is the Silver Museum in Arjeplog. The Grand Tourism Prize is awarded to an organization or company that works innovatively, sustainably and shares its knowledge to develop a sustainable tourism industry. All of Sweden’s counties nominate one candidate each, and in Norrbotten it is Swedish Lapland Visitors Board that selects the nominee.

“The museum shows how hidden lives and ways of life in the Arctic cultural landscape can make great impressions, both locally and nationally. With its integrated approach – where research, tourism, local community and cultural heritage interact – the Silver Museum is a shining example of how tourism and social benefit can be united,” reads the motivation.

“The Silver Museum in Arjeplog is more than just a museum. It is a platform for sustainable place development, living cultural heritage, and local collaboration. The fact that they are also a destination that breaks visitor records, while being a local meeting place, makes them a candidate that represents Norrbotten in the best way”, says Annika Fredriksson, CEO of Swedish Lapland Visitors Board.

“We are delighted and proud to be nominated for the Grand Tourism Prize. We work every day to tell the story of northern Sweden’s fascinating history in a way that appeals to both those who live here in Arjeplog and visitors from around the world. The nomination is proof that we have succeeded in reaching out as an interesting destination and that history and cultural heritage are an important part of the hospitality sector”, says Malin Brännström, head of the Silver Museum, and continues:

“For us, it is particularly important that visitors and tourism become an asset and not a burden for the local community. We must together take responsibility to ensure that the surroundings are not negatively affected when more and more people want to visit our beautiful part of Sweden”.

The Grand Tourism Prize is awarded according to three criteria:

Main criterion: The prize winner contributes to innovative thinking and innovative development of the tourism industry.

Sustainability criterion: The prize winner systematically and purposefully develops a sustainable business.

Knowledge criterion: The prize winner develops, spreads and shares new skills and knowledge to strengthen the hospitality sector.

This year’s nominees demonstrate innovative thinking and a strong drive to contribute to shaping the places of the future – for people to live, work and visit”, says Katrien Vanhaverbeke, chairman of the Foundation for Knowledge Promotion in Tourism.

“– At the same time, they play an important role in educating and spreading knowledge in a variety of areas and strengthen the hospitality sector’s role as a society-supporting knowledge actor.”

The Grand Tourism Prize 2025 will be awarded on December 3 in connection with the Tourism on the Agenda conference. Last year, the victory went to Tiraholms fisk in Halland and the year before that to Aurora Safari, which was Norrbotten’s nominee. It is the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth that is the principal for the Foundation for Knowledge Promotion in Tourism that awards the prize.
